Florida International’s Week 1 trip to Raymond James Stadium gives FIU and South Florida an immediate test amid major offensive turnover. The clearest roster question is at quarterback. FIU’s cleanest route is to lean on Carrie, shorten the game and let Simmons and Taylor attack obvious passing situations rather than asking an unconfirmed quarterback choice to carry the night. South Florida can take control by protecting its quarterback, getting Isaac involved on schedule and finding Reuben before FIU’s rush can dictate possessions. Both offenses should value field position and avoid forcing early answers from new combinations. Whichever team blocks better on routine downs, stays ahead of the chains and keeps its passer out of predictable pressure situations will be positioned to control the fourth quarter.
