Wake Forest begins Year 2 under Jake Dickert with a useful but revealing opener: an experienced Akron core visits Winston-Salem before the Demon Deacons travel to Purdue and host Miami. Akron’s path is straightforward: lean on Gant, protect the ball and make Wake prove its new offensive pieces can sustain drives. Cyrus Durham, Akron’s returning defensive playmaker, must pressure whichever quarterback takes the first snap without exposing easy throws to Carlos Hernandez, a returning Wake target.
