September’s visit from Nicholls gives Kansas State an immediate test of whether a dramatically reworked roster can settle around its most familiar piece. Kansas State’s cleanest route to control is to make Johnson’s dual-threat ability the organizing principle, feed Jackson behind a simplified run menu and let play-action create defined throws for Tibbs. For Nicholls, the route is to win first down, keep Johnson inside the pocket and test whether Kansas State’s new combinations communicate cleanly while the game is still tight. Long possessions and pressure without reckless pursuit would give the visitors their best chance to dictate tempo. Kansas State can deny that path by avoiding negative plays, finishing drives and allowing its adjustment-heavy defense to attack obvious passing situations.
