If Lafayette protects cleanly and stays out of long-yardage downs, it can make the Huskies sustain drives instead of leaning on short fields and defensive disruption.

For UConn, control starts with making the quarterback’s first assignment manageable. A steady run game, clean early-down decisions and accessible throws would let the Huskies bring along a new lineup without asking it to create everything at once. Shamar Porter, back after 17 catches for 219 yards and a touchdown last season, offers one familiar target, while Syracuse transfer Emanuel Ross adds another option. Lafayette’s path is to compress the game: avoid negative plays, make UConn repeatedly execute, and test the cohesion of a roster absorbing major turnover. The longer that pressure holds, the more meaningful every possession becomes.
