Ole Miss is favored because the available passing-efficiency comparison favors its offense over Louisville's defense.

Louisville and Ole Miss meet at Nissan Stadium in a neutral-site opener that immediately tests two very different quarterback positions. Ole Miss brings back Trinidad Chambliss after a 2025 season built on efficient passing, ball security and added value as a runner. Louisville spent spring trying to identify its next starter. Ohio State transfer Lincoln Kienholz took the first spring-game snaps and gives Brian Brohm designed-run and option possibilities, but his live experience is limited, and Davin Wydner played well enough to keep the competition credible. That uncertainty makes Louisville’s first few possessions especially revealing.
The decisive matchup is Louisville’s defensive front against an entirely rebuilt Ole Miss offensive line. Clev Lubin is the proven pressure piece for the Cardinals, with A.J. Green, Tyler Thompson and Jerod Smith II giving Louisville several ways to rotate and align its edge rush. Ole Miss counters with two established backfield threats: Chambliss can punish undisciplined pursuit with his legs, and Kewan Lacy returns as a durable, productive runner. If the Rebels’ new line communicates cleanly and keeps Lubin from wrecking early downs, their offense can stay balanced. If not, Stanquan Clark and T.J. Capers should have chances to attack behind the disruption.

Louisville’s cleanest route to control is to lean on Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown, use Kienholz’s mobility if he wins the job, and avoid asking a new quarterback and unsettled offensive line to live in obvious passing situations. That also shortens the game and lets Lubin’s group stay fresh. Ole Miss can take command by making Louisville defend the full width of the field: Lacy between the tackles, Chambliss on reads and designed runs, and Syracuse transfer Johntay Cook moved around to find favorable coverage. The Cardinals need early-down wins and long-yardage snaps; the Rebels need patience. Whichever team makes its rebuilt offensive line less visible should dictate the night.
